Thanksgiving Pre-Game

11.1.22

The Thanksgiving season is quickly approaching! We all know that Thanksgiving prep and clean up requires a lot of appliances. From the kitchen to the laundry room, family and friends coming into town demand that appliances be on their best behavior so that the holiday moves smoothly.

We found that during this time of year (thanks to Murphy’s law) it’s always right when you need an appliance most that it breaks down, so we thought we’d give out some friendly tips before we get down to the wire.

Clean Your Ovens and Ranges Now

If you rely on features like self-clean in a kitchen appliance, don’t wait until the week before Thanksgiving to get a deep clean in. The higher temperatures of a self-cleaning cycle can be hard on ranges and depending on how long you’ve had the unit it may be the nail in the coffin.

If you can avoid it, it may be best to avoid the self-clean altogether if there is a worry about the life of the appliance, but if you have to use it, we suggest doing so now in case service or a replacement is needed.

Don’t Put Off Service

Sometimes we get busy and don’t want to deal with those little quirks that have popped over the course of our appliances’ lives, but we strongly recommend you get these things looked at sooner rather than later. Acting early is especially important because what may be a minor issue now, if left unchecked, can become debilitating to your appliance.

Most appliances come with a one-year factory warranty to protect against defects, and if something comes up in that period please do not wait until it’s too late to take advantage of that protection. Most manufacturers offer simple and easy service scheduling online so you can avoid waiting on hold. Additionally, we recommend additional warranty coverage on every new appliance purchase that will give added protection past the first year so you have a bit more peace of mind.

One final benefit in acting early is that some local appliance technicians are booked out several weeks in advance, so if you have waited until your appliance has completely quit to get it looked at, you will be even more behind.

Start Shopping Now

If you have been contemplating getting a new appliance, it is best to start shopping now. While global supply chain issues have ameliorated, and we have seen much better results (all things being equal).

Items can still be subject to delays and backorders, and it is always better to get the ball rolling early so as to have a greater chance of getting the item when you need it as opposed to dealing with the frustration of going without while you wait.
