Right from the beginning this beater performed well. There was no problem with chipping or not properly fitting the bowl. However, after awhile an oily residue became apparent each time I was ready to use it; so I would wash it again. It happened every time I would try to use it, so I knew it wasn't something I was doing wrong.. I tried emailing Kitchenaid with the problem, but got no response. When I read a review from a customer who had the same problem, I decided to take this course of action. I presume this oily substance is used in attaching the silicon to the blade. This item is made in China. Should we be concerned with regard to the oily substance?
Good addition to attachments

I bought the flat beater last week.Used to make a 7up cake that calls for creaming butter and sugar for 20 minutes. This beater eliminates the need to stop and scrape the bowl constantly.Glad I bought it really saves time.

I bought 2 of these at Christmas one as a gift and one for myself. Within the first time I used it , it scraped against the bottom of the bowl and chipped off. Then I received a notice from Amazon stating that the one I bought was not "authentic". Assuming that was the cause for my displeasure I bought another one at Bed Bath and Beyond. It came in the identical box, I used the new one and again it hit the bottom and chipped off
Won't buy another
