Here at Kelly's Home Center, we have a wide variety of mattresses. Our staff is dedicated to giving our customers an amazing night sleep but getting a new bed.

If you are struggling to get sleep, you are not alone. About 70% of Americans say that they don't get enough sleep one night at least once a month and 11% of people say that they get insufficient sleep every single night.

Of course, as a mattress store, the first thing we suggest is to get a new mattress. Sometimes your lack of sleep is just as simple as buying a new bed. We would love to share some ideas on how you can fall asleep quicker and get more restful sleep each night.

1. Stick to a Sleep Schedule

It is very important to stick with a sleep schedule. Make sure that you are going to bed at around the same time every night and waking up at the same time every morning. Some people have a tough time sticking to a schedule for sleep and it messes with their ability to get sufficient sleep each night.

Yes, the weekends are a great time to catch up on sleep but you might be actually making it difficult to keep on a schedule. If you want to sleep well during the week then you shouldn't sleep in too much on your days off.

2. Avoid Electronics Before Going to Bed

As much as you want to look at your phone and watch television before you go to bed it is actually harming your sleep. The blue light from your cell phone or your television is actually making it difficult to shut your brain down quickly. It is then harder to get into a deep sleep.

3. Avoid Caffeine before Bedtime:

Try to avoid caffeinated beverages or snacks before you go to bed. If you don't avoid your caffeine then you will likely struggle to fall asleep. Even if you manage to fall asleep quickly you have a higher chance of dealing with light sleep and having vivid dreams.

4. Clear your Mind

Find a way to relax before you get to bed. You won't sleep as well if you are falling asleep angry, stressed, overwhelmed, or overly tired. In order to have a well-rested and deep sleep, you need to find a way to relax before you get into bed.

Some ways you can clear your mind:

  • Warm bath
  • Reading a book
  • Stretching/yoga

5. Get a Comfortable Bed

We know we mentioned it before, but one of the best things that you can do for your sleep is to purchase a mattress. At Kelly's Home Center we offer many top mattress brands. Not sure which one to choose? We have a smart bed that will not only tell you your pressure points but will give our sales staff suggestions for the best mattress for your body and sleeping position.

Reasons your bed is impacting your sleep;

  • New Mattress is in Better Shape: Your mattress deteriorates over time. Your old mattress might have been fine a few years ago but now you are noticing it isn't comfortable anymore - that is because it is thinning. Your new mattress will be in better shape and you will get a much better night's sleep.
  • Better Springs: The older the mattress the more you can feel the springs. When you start feeling the springs you know you aren't going to be sleeping as well.
  • Keep cooler: Do you get really hot during the night? There are many mattresses that offer a cooling feature so you don't get overheated too quickly.

6. Exercise Regularly

One of the best things you can do for overall health is to exercise on a regular basis. If you work out consistently then you will be able to fall asleep quicker and get into a deeper sleep.

6. Start a Sleep Ritual

Not only is it important to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day but it is important to have a ritual that you stick with. If you stick to a ritual your body will start slowing down and will know that it is time to go to sleep as you make it through all of your routine.

Examples of things you might put in your routine:

  • Taking a bath
  • Doing yoga
  • Reading a book
  • Brushing teeth
  • Skin routine
  • Set out clothes for the next morning

7. Keep your Room Clean

Your body will get more relaxed quicker and you will be able to stay asleep longer if your room is clean. Having a clean and organized bedroom will allow you to relax and clear your mind quicker and more efficiently.

8. Darken your Room

Although you may like falling asleep with a night light, or hall light on, you will not sleep as well when there is light coming into your room. Consider turning off all of your lights, flipping your phone over so you can't see the light, and getting room darkening curtains. Even a little bit of light going into your room can ruin your sleep.

9. Avoid Studying in your bed

Your bed is for sleeping. It is important to not turn your bed into an office or a place for you to study. Your bed should be a place where you unwind so that your body knows when you get into bed it means that you fall asleep.
