What’s That Drawer Underneath the Range?
Do you know what that drawer under a range does? There is no quick answer, because the little drawer’s purpose is actually dependent on the type of range you purchase. The drawer might be used for warming, might be used for a broiler, maybe nothing, or it might be another oven!
Ultimately, it is important to ask your appliance salesperson the purpose of the drawer before making your purchase.
In this article, we will be discussing the different functions of the drawer underneath the range. We will be talking about the warming drawer, the broiler, the storage, and the second oven.
How Does the Warming Drawer Work?
A warming drawer is a great spot to place food after it has been cooked and you want to keep food warm until it is ready to serve.
Why do people not know more about the drawer under the range? Why aren’t people utilizing the warming drawer?
• Close to the Ground: Nobody really uses it because it is close to the ground. Putting food close to the ground may seem odd to people. Shouldn’t you be keeping food away from the ground?
• Small Children + Hot Food Doesn’t Mix: Many people might not want to put the food near the ground that is hot because they have small children. They would hate for their kids to open the drawer and then touch the hot food.
• Easily Opens: Speaking of kids, it would not be good for small children to open up the door and then grab the freshly cooked food. Not only would they get burned but they would ruin the food. It would just be a lose-lose situation.
• Convenient for Oven Sheets: The drawer is sometimes a lot more convenient to keep kitchen utensils instead of using it to keep dishes warm.
• Nowhere Else to Put Pans: Some people just don’t have anywhere to place their cookie sheets except for underneath the oven.
The Drawer Might Be For Broiling
Some ovens have a broiler drawer that is attached under the oven. A broiler is a “dry-heat cooking method that uses high heat above.”
According to Food Above Gold, “When broiling, the heating element is turned up high, which creates a temperature of around 550°F. The speed you cook is then controlled by how close you place your food to the heat source.”
Sometimes, the drawer underneath the oven is not only a warming drawer but used for broiling purposes. Make sure when you are choosing your oven that you know the use of the mysterious bottom drawer.
The Drawer Might be Another Oven
In some circumstances, there is no drawer underneath the oven. The space that the drawer would typically be is actually a second range. Many people love having an extra smaller oven because it gives them the ability to cook multiple dishes at once.
Drawer Under the Range for Storage?
Sometimes the drawer may not have any purpose other than for storage. You can place the pots, pans, and cooking gear in the extra drawer. Having the storage underneath the range is really convenient for cooking and it is beneficial if you don’t have a lot of space in your kitchen.
