Quite a few brands have developed their own smart refrigerator models. The pioneers for the smart refrigerator movement include LG, Samsung, and GE (Café Brand).
So, What Does a Smart Refrigerator Mean?
Smart Refrigerators have unique features such as WiFi, Family Hub, and Instaview.
WiFi Enabled
WiFi-enabled refrigerators allow you to control all of your special features with the convenience of your phone. You can just simply download the appropriate app and control your settings from your phone from anywhere.
Family Hub
Some refrigerators, such as the Samsung smart refrigerator, have Alexa automatically built-in. Therefore, you stay organized as a family. You are able to save events, keep recipes safe, and even create shopping lists. Along with the Alexa, you can also keep track of what is in your fridge from your phone.
InstaView
The LG refrigerator offers a screen on the outside of the fridge door. You can look through the items in your fridge without opening up the door. This feature is called InstaView.
Is the Smart Refrigerator Worth the Cost?
Typically, a smart refrigerator is anywhere from $1000-$1500 more than a traditional refrigerator. You really have to decide if the smart features are worth that extra $1000 (or more).
Some consumers appreciate the extra features and have the funds to pay for the smart refrigerator, but don’t like the look. While some would love the features, don’t mind the look, but they don’t have the funds.
Questions to ask yourself:
• “Do I like the look?”
• “Will I actually use the smart features?”
• “Do I have an extra $1000-$1500 to spend on a refrigerator?”
If the answer is “yes” to all of these questions then the smart refrigerator would be worth the extra cost.
Purchasing a Smart Refrigerator
Most appliance stores may have some smart refrigerators on their floor. However, they might not have their entire selection of smart refrigerators there for you to see. You might have to order the one that you would like through their system and have it delivered later.
